It's Cereal Time!

My little Declan turned 5months on Monday. I can't believe how the months have flown by! I look at our small couch and remember when we brought him home from the hospital and I put the carseat on that couch and thought it myself "Am I ready to do this?" Some days are better than others and I'm better adjusted to taking care of 2 kids than other days. He is such a joy to have in our family, in all of his stinker ways. I am continually in awe at how much he loves Corin. He loves watching Corin and smiling at him. Corin can make him laugh by far more than anyone can; Corin made Declan laugh for very first time. He gets distracted easily when he is eating a bottle because he hears Corin's voice and wants to look around for him. He gets SO excited, kicking his legs and wiggling when he hears and sees Corin.
When I was at Target I picked up some Gerber rice cereal to start him on. I know most of you have already started your babies before they turned 5months, but this is just what I do. My doctor has always recommended to start rice cereal when they are 4-6months, so I just take the middle. Mornings get a little crazy, so I decided with Declan we'd do it in the evening, so last night was our first time. We've had the high chair out for a few weeks and he loves to sit in it and play with his toy.
This is an old (8/6) picture of Declan enjoying playing with his toy in his high chair
He loves to hit it and watch it go around.

First bite! I love the faces!
"What have you given me Mom?"
But as he ate more and more, he seemed to like it.

LOVE this face!! He would pucker up and start sucking what he had in his mouth down.

He smiley the whole time!

  1. I didn't start Collin on rice cereal until at least 6 months, so you are ahead of me. LOVE the pictures...and that is so great that Declan loves Corin so much. All little brothers should look up to their big brothers.

  2. Glad I'm not totally behind. It works for our family, so I'm sticking to it =0) Corin when he was this little, and Declan may have been ready earlier, but I like to wait. They both did fine on just formula up til then, so why not wait. I LOVE it too how Declan acts when he sees Corin, I hope it continues and that Corin will love playing with him when he gets older.

  3. You have every right to be confident about when you chose to start him on cereal. Good for you! I hate it when mom's make it sound like their baby's so smart because he/she's already on cereal... they're ready when they're ready, that's what I say. I tried mine too soon... but now he likes it. I love the faces he makes! And I so want one of those high chair toys! Where'd you get it?

  4. Thanks Jami! I try to have confidence, but sometimes I do feel insecure when I hear what other moms are doing and I second guess what I am doing with my boys, but then I think "I'm the Mom and I can make the best choices for my babies." I think I got it at Babies R Us, but Target might also have some, I can't remember exactly since it is a hand-me-down from when Corin was a baby.

  5. I need to bring my high chair in from the garage. I've just been putting him in his Bumbo but to have a tray with toys on it would rock, I think. He likes to sit in it when we're all out in the garage - I'll have to try it. :)
