"I Burp Him"

Corin has asked to hold Declan and also to take his picture (can you tell I have the camera out often). Declan was getting hungry so I was making him a bottle and I set Declan in Corin's lap. Corin says "I burp him"

I asked Corin if he wanted to feed Declan "Yeah Okay" was his reply. He even made sure that I gave him a burp cloth.

However, I don't think Declan got more than a few drops down before Corin decided that he needed to burp again

It was cute to watch Corin put the burp cloth on his shoulder and try to burp Declan. But as with most things concerning Corin, it was a short and he wanted to go do something else so I fed Declan.

To Ooooklahoma for the Potawatomi Pow Wow

Yep, this past weekend we were in Oklahoma. It was HOT!! There only a slight breeze which did help a bit with the heat.We went out there to visit some of my extended family and attend the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Annual Pow Wow Festival which is held on the Potawatomi grounds in Shawnee, OK. Yep, I may look like a white girl, but I have some Native American blood in me. There is SO much to do at the Pow Wow and they do a great job in accommadating all different age groups. We mostly did all the things for the kids; arts and crafts, swimming, jumping castle, playground. We stayed at a hotel in Seminole, OK and drove into Shawnee for the festivities. Uncle Jack and Aunt Winnie (their my great aunt and uncle) have there camper on site as well as my cousins, so we hung out at their trailers, which was SO nice to retreat to an air conditioner in the hot heat, Declan definitely needed it. Corin was red faced the whole weekend because of the heat, but he was good a drank lots of water, which was proved for free along with hot dogs, soda, brats and yummy frybread! Cousins from Arkansas came for the Pow Wow as well. It was SO great to see everyone! The boys with Aunt Winnie and Uncle Jack. Since my grandparents are gone, they are like the boys great grandparents even though they are their double great aunt and uncle.Declan loved being with Aunt Winnie and Uncle Jack.
He was smily and chatting with them.
How can you not love them, they are such sweet, wonderful people.

The trip wouldn't have been complete without a little drama, which seems to be the norm around the O'Berry home lately. My Dad rented golf carts for us to use to get around the grounds, but mostly for Aunt Winnie and Uncle Jack (we mostly walked, had to work off the fry bread somehow). So, my brothers had taken out a cart and left the keys in it. (of course they won't admit to it and blame the accident on me for not watching Corin well enough in their opinion). So, Corin climbed into it and hit the gas driving it in a circle and hitting a fence! Of course I wasn't going to let Corin play on the golf cart, but everything happened SO fast, how would I have time to get him off before he hit the gas. Shane went running after him, but couldn't catch him in time and I just froze until he hit the chain-link fence and then ran over to him and grabbed him. When he hit the fence he fell forward, then backward and then forward again. His bottom lip got cut open and got teeth puncture wounds in his top lip and bottom. It was swollen and bleeding like crazy! He was SO scared, shaking and crying like crazy for quite a while. It scared all of us! But, gratefully nothing else was wrong with him. My cousin is a volunteer firefighter, then a nurse came over from another sight and last the one duty paramedic came over. I kept my composure, but wanted to just burst out into tears myself for Corin getting hurt and scared. His lips were bruised and sensitive the whole weekend but are healed. But as in Corin fashion he wanted to get back on the golf cart for a ride throughout the weekend, however he didn't climb on again by himself.

Corin experiencing how the Potawatomi people lived

Corin cooling down with a popsicle which was melting fast.

I love Corin's crazy hair from being sweaty.

Declan with his "do-rag" to keep the sun off his little head, even though he was in the shade or trailer, can never be too careful.

Declan in his Potawatomi t-shirt!

Corin has SO much fun that he finally passed out! He missed the Grand Entry and Declan only lasted a while before he got too hot (It finally was cool at about 9:30-10:00) and I took him back to the trailer where Shane was and changed Declan out of his t-shirt and shorts to a onesie.
So I wasn't able to get a picture of Corin in his Potawatomi t-shirt.

These ladies made TONS of frybread in the hot heat over the weekend!
My favorite is to have it with honey!

Caring for the Wounded Soldier

The Wound all Stitched Up
Getting Rest
The Doctor advised for him to keep his leg up, he actually did for a little while after we got home on Tuesday and now when he lays on the couch he wants pillows under his leg
On Tuesday Corin had to get a sponge bath.
Getting clean bandages
All wrapped up.
When you ask Corin what happened his reply is "I tripped and got a hole and broke my leg. The doctor fixed it"
Last night we could give him a real bath, he would whince as we took off the bandages and gently washed it, but overall again such a trooper with only a bit of crying, and not even real crying just complaining.

The War Wound

Today Corin was outside with Shane. I was getting ready to go do some errands with Declan when Shane comes running in with screaming, crying Corin in his arms, lays him on the dining table and asks for a paper towel. I looked at Corin's left shin and there is this HUGE gash across it. We have some metal edging in our yard (which one day I want to get rid of because of this exact reason) and Corin had fallen right on top of it!! OUCH!! We got some gauze and tape to put pressure on it to stop the bleeding and pack him up in the car and take him straight to the doctor's office. Sure enough, he needs stitches! He got 4 on the top and 1 underneath the skin (the skin was hanging off! He is such a trooper. He cried a bit and would wince, but that is about it. Once we got to the doctor's office you wouldn't have even know something was wrong unless you saw the gash in his leg. The doctor and the nurse both commented on what a great boy he was being and that most kids would be a complete wreck and it would be difficult to put the stitches in.
I was SO glad Shane was home when this happened and also that I have such a great little boy when it comes to getting hurt. He is totally back to his normal self; high energy! He thinks it is totally cool that his leg is all wrapped up.

From the Perspective of a 3 year-old

Corin has been interested in taking pictures lately, so I have let him use the camera (Risky, I know, but so far so good). It was interesting what he chose to take pictures of as well as what they looked like. Gave some perspective about how he sees things.

Flip-flops and Footprints

I bought Corin a pair of flip-flops awhile ago because he was talking about them. Most of my sandals are flip-flops and Shane has a pair, so of course, he wants to be just like us. It is funny to watch him walk in them. He can't keep them on his feet very well and so I kept having to put them back on, but oh well. He got tired of wearing them while we were outside today and started playing barefoot in his sandbox, which is still wet. He had fun squishing his toes in the wet sand and getting his feet wet in the bit of water that was left in it and then would get out and walk on the porch to see his footprints. I even got to join in on the footprint making fun.

Upgraded Bath Time

Declan has upgraded from being bathed in the sink to the infant tub last night!
I don't know why, but both the boys when they were tiny got bathed in the bathroom sink until they got bigger.
First Bath
(sponge bath since his cord was still attached, but I had to give him one, well Shane did, I took pictures he was smelling funny at it had been 4days)
He went from not liking the bath (as you can tell)

Another sink bath time. Getting too big!

To thinking it is alright.

He thought it was fun to put his feet on the top of the tub.

And now he enjoys it. However, he wasn't liking it so much when the water started to get drained and then getting out.

He's going to love this when he gets older that I posted pictures of him naked on the blog.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Corin is a very active little boy with TONS of energy! However, he has found some quiet activities that keep his interest and he loves to do. These activities are looking at books and reading; either being read to our doing it on his own (which is so cute to watch) and doing puzzles.

A while back I bought him some 25 piece puzzles (probably a month or even more ago). A few days in a row, right after I bought them and gave them to him, we did them together and now he can do them all on his own like a champ! The great thing is he doesn't get bored about doing the same 2 puzzles he has over and over again. He will build them, as he calls it, and then break them and start again. He is so quiet when he is doing them. Yesterday I gave him a new puzzle because he pooped in the potty (which has been plaguing us). Shane helped him just a little bit, more with words than actions last night and now he is doing it all on his own. It has been great to watch him figure out how the pieces go together all by himself. He has always been independent.

Yep they're Brothers!

I was looking through pictures today, which I like to do and came upon this one.

I then immediately thought of this one.

Can you guess which boy is which?
