Horse Ride

The boys love to get horse rides from Daddy and recently Corin started giving Declan rides, which he loves. He continuously asks for them from Corin.

Tiring

Throwing a fit can be quite the tiring job

He screamed and threw a fit all the way home in the car. I got him in the house and he kept going so I left him on the stairs to take his shoes off while I ignored him and made lunch. He continued on and on til he got quiet. I went to check on him and he had fallen asleep on the stairs.

Being Big...

...or should I say wanting to be big!

Anything that Corin does Declan wants to do too and this was evident tonight at dinner. We had corn on the cob and chicken, nothing extravagent, but it was the way Declan wanted to eat. I had cut Declan's corn off the cob, thinking it would be easier for him to eat, however when he say that Corin had it on the cob he threw a fit saying "I eat big!" He wanted his on the cob too!
Corin has been working on cutting his own food with a knife. Just a butter knife, so softer foods like pancakes. However Declan doesn't really understand this and when I went to cut his chicken he threw another fit saying "I chop chop!" Which is how he refers to knives and cutting. So I just gave him a piece of chicken for him to try. He does try cutting his own pancakes with his fork.

A little more difficult than pancakes. So he improvised and ate it like this because he still would not let me "chop chop" his chicken.

Happy Independence Day!!

We had a fun Independence Day with a few funfilled activities! I was not on the ball this year as in past years to get make sure we had picnic-able food to go to the local rec. center, sit in the grass, eat, play and have a picnic dinner to then wait for the city fireworks show, so instead we did a few different things.

First we went bowling! I signed up for the Brunswick email because I wanted coupons for Corin's birthday and it has been great to get them just to know I have a coupon to do something fun with the boys if we ever wanted to. Well, the email I got was for one free game of bowling from July 1st-4th. So we decided to go! All we had to pay was shoe rental (which of course is more than the game) and decided not to get Declan shoes (they don't have a small enough size anyway as we found out for Corin's birthday) and he just bowled a little on Shane's turn. We got there pretty much right when the opened because I didn't know how crowded it could possibly get. Well, it wasn't crowded at all, pretty dead, so I was glad.

We were only there for a little over an hour so we came home and Corin rode his bike. I don't have pictures because I decided to video it on our camcorder instead. Now that he has learned to pedal he as been really into wanting to ride his bike, which is GREAT!! He still has some work to do (stopping, getting started on his own and continously pedalling) but he showed progress from when he started on Saturday til today, so I'm a happy Mama!

After lunch we headed to my parents house. My mom and I went out together on Saturday to do some errands we both wanted to do and she bought tons of strawberries that she wanted my help making freezer jam and freezing them whole. So we thought today was the perfect day to get that done and she bought the boys a small water slip and slide to play with. So while we were instead with strawberries Shane set up the water slide and took pictures for me. It took Corin a bit to get the hang of it (he thought it was going to be like a normal type slide) and they had fun playing in the water.

After the boys were finished with the water slide and they got dried off and clothes on they sat and watched a movie to have quiet time.
We then had dinner of ribs!! YUMMY!! When my mom and I were out on Saturday we went to Sprouts (where we got the strawberries for cheap, .88cents/lb) and they were grilling ribs! So my mom bought some for us to have today! They were really good!! Corin and Declan didn't much care for them. Declan quite enjoyed the spinach strawberry salad. I am grateful that my boys aren't picky eaters, or at least too much. I think they like and eat a good variety of food. I'd say Declan is less "picky" than Corin is. Corin doesn't like anything that is lettuce and Declan was gobbling up the spinach as long as we had a few strawberries to go along with it, but I gave him more spinach leaves than strawberries and he was eating it all.

After dinner we watched the Rockies game (which we lost to the Atlanta Braves 4-1) and headed outside to have dessert, SMORES!! This was my boys first experience with a fire. Declan stayed away and Corin tried to roast a marshmellow, but didn't like being so close to the fire. He told me it hurt his eyes and face. My mom got these GIANT marshmellows from Walmart while we were there on Sat! Seriously they are HUGE!! On the back of the package it says to use a whole Graham Cracker sheet for one! When roasted the grew to twice there size and we got 2 smores out of 1 marshmellow and they were still extra marshmellowy, but SO fun to have! We had a great time and laugh with them!

Then we concluded our Independence Day with, of course FIREWORKS!! The boys LOVED the sparklers! Once one went out Declan would ask for more!
Watching the Fireworks Daddy was setting off.

Having fun with sparklers with Papa!

I Can Pedal A Bike!

As I've posted about before, I compare myself and my children to others. I know I shouldn't, but its something I do struggle with and am trying not to. I need to keep remembering the this post about appreciating the qualities of my own children. So, I'd see other children Corin's age or younger riding a bike and think "why can't Corin get the hang of it" I know some it is due to we weren't being consistant on getting him outside on the bike and teaching him, continually working with him on getting the motion down. And then I thought it had something to do with his legs. He still walks on his toes and children are suppose to grow out of that by age 5 and he still does it, so there may be something wrong, but he never complains about his legs hurting. So, I went out with my mom to do some errands and Shane stayed home with the boys. While I was gone they worked on riding his bike. I didn't know until I got home and he woke up from nap. The first thing he told me was "Mom I can pedal a bike!" I was SO happy and he was SO proud of himself that I hugged him and got teary eyed. So later that evening after dinner we went back outside so he could show me and I could get pictures and video of it. It just has taken him a little longer and that is fine! I NEED to remember that it IS OKAY for it to take a little longer and that it is NOTHING against my child or me that it does! All children have different rates of learning and catching onto things.
