To The Park

Today was a BEAUTIFULLY PERFECT day, so we walked to the park. I only took our small stroller (we have a Sit and Stand stroller, so Corin can ride on the little sit in the back) and Corin did great walking either next to me or a little bit ahead or behind and when we crossed 100th, he was GREAT!! He was dragging on the way home though, but that's understandable and didn't want to leave the park. This was Declan's first time at the park and he had a great time in the baby swing, sitting contently gently swinging back and forth. I took him out for awhile and  put him in the sand. Yeah, didn't like that too much, but he didn't freak out as he did in the grass. I stood him up and he leaned up against my legs and watched his own bare feet in the sand. He even wiggled his toes in it and got sand all over them. That was enough and he wanted up. At least he tried. I didn't get a picture since I was holding him up, but next time we go I'll try to get one and be better prepared with the camera ready.

Corin of course had fun! He played Autopilot (from the movie Wall-E) with the wheel
Corin is very friendly and sociable. He would just go up to groups of kids and sit right down and play with them. There was a boy and a girl playing with their sand toys and Corin takes his sand toys, goes right over with them and starts playing. Also, while we were there I saw a mother of a girl I used to teach Preschool to at Seven Oaks Academy. The little girl I used to teach is now 10yrs old! And they have a little boy who is almost 4yrs-old! CRAZY!! It was actually GREAT to see this mother. She is a REALLY sweet woman, so is her daughter and it was nice to know that she recognized me and my voice.  Our boys played together for awhile and we chatted. I hope to see them more at the park, they live really close to it and said they come often. Our boys will be going to the same school and will be in the same grade, so that's nice.

Walking

Yep, Declan is walking!! It's crazy!! He is not a complete independent walker yet, but is getting there. He seems to choose more and more each time to walk, especially when he is already standing up holding on to something, than takes off on his own or he'll get close to something, pull himself up and walk. He loves to walk to someone. I LOVE the little faces they make when they are walking. The excitement in their eyes that they are doing it and having their little arms out. They are so excited they are doing it!

Taming the Lion

I know I've blogged about this before, but I'm going to do it again since its my blog and I can post what I want! =0)
Corin is a very active little boy. He is always on the go and at times can be high strung (who does he get that from??) BUT there is a few things that calms him, which he will do quietly. Reading books is one. He LOVES to read and be read to. His new favorite is Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss (he has to know who the author is when we read and he knows Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle and Mercer Meyer really well.) I love when I read a story to him that I can pause and he'll fill in the words for me. He had a great memory.
Here is the other thing that makes him go quiet.....

Puzzles!! He LOVES puzzles! I 2  25piece Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs puzzles at Dollar Tree. I gave him one today to work on, brand new, never done it before and he worked at matching the pieces together and figuring out where they went! I am still in awe about how well he does at puzzles and how much he enjoys them. He doesn't get frusturated like he does at other things he feels he can't do or figure out! I also LOVE having a Dollar Tree close that has these puzzles so I can get him many, however the thing is that he's perfectly happy doing the same ones over and over that he has. He loves doing them on the floor, but with Declan he's had to start working at the table. Declan was asleep when he got to work on this puzzle.
I LOVE the way he sits to work on his puzzles!

Look Ma No Hands

For awhile now Declan has been cruising the furniture and within the last few weeks he has been standing on his own for short bits. Well today I FINALLY got some pictures! Since it is for short amounts of time I've never had the camera ready and once I go and grab it he is down and crawling. So today I carried the camera with me. They aren't the best and may be hard to tell, but he is standing on his own!! Hopefully I can get some better ones in the near future, but for now these will have to do since I wanted to document this occasion.

TORTURE!

I think its offical that Declan DOES NOT like grass! Maybe when it gets warmer and starts to grow into the nice soft green kind he'll like it, but this brown scratchy stuff he HATES! Yes, I have tortured my child by continuing to put him in the grass.

I think its funny that he has on jeans and socks and STILL is upset to be in the grass. Maybe its because he remembers the "traumatic" experience it was in the past.

Not even a pacie helped, that's how much grass is disliked!

HOPPY EASTER!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. We sure did! It was a simple, relaxing day. I was a bummer that Erin, Steve and the kids weren't able to come out like they were hoping because of Steve's work so we just spent it together as a family.
On Sat. evening we dyed Easter eggs.  I thought I had a kit, but apparently I didn't so I just looked up the recipe online which was SUPER simple and I had everything (water, white vinegar and food coloring)
Just dipping eggs in the colored water was a bit boring for Corin, he didn't want to wait, so I pulled out his water colors and he had a great time painting them (I'll have to remember this for next year) And I tried a technique of making them speckled by adding oil to the color mixture, putting the egg in and then patting it dry with a paper towel. It worked pretty well and than we would mix colors. We put the egg in just yellow to get it all covered, than dropped it in the purple which had oil in it.

Sunday we ate popcorn as we watched General Conference. Last Sat. I turned on the Young Women's session and Corin made a comment about eating popcorn and watching. We couldn't do it that evening because we were having the Sister Missionaries over for dinner, but decided that when General Conference was on that we would enjoy popcorn.

The frog tin  filled with Snickers eggs is for Shane and the hat is for me. We always do something small for each other on Easter as well, just for fun.

We also enjoyed our Easter baskets and the candy that was in them. Declan's eggs were filled with the Gerber Yogurt Melts. He LOVES them and Corin's were filled with his favorite, CHOCOLATE! Declan was fascinated with holding and shaking the eggs.

After nap time we had a Easter egg hunt in the backyard.

Declan HATES the being down in the grass, so he stayed on Shane's shoulders. Even an egg didn't help Declan be content with sitting in the grass.

After we ate dinner, for dessert we decorated and ate Easter cookies

I gave Declan a spoon with some frosting on it. He first started hitting the table with it and than he put it in his mouth.

Then we put him in his high chair to enjoy cookies with us. YUM YUM!!

Switching Up the Toys

So about a week ago I did some toy switching around for Declan. While Declan was napping Corin and I went into the basement, brought up some toys and got them all cleaned for Declan to use. He is loving the "new" toys!! Declan LOVED that Corin was pushing him around on the firetruck and Corin was having fun as well.
