What is it about MY shoes??

I'm trying to figure out what the fascination is with MY shoes. My shoes and Shane's shoes can both be at the back door and for some reason my shoes are always the ones chosen to be played with.

When Corin was younger he too loved to play with my shoes.

I am willing to bet that I have many more of Corin playing with my shoes, but these are the ones I could find for now. I have SO many pictures!

Modesty

This has been a subject that has been on my mind for awhile now and mostly as it relates to girls and their modesty, which I think is interesting since I have boys, but maybe its because I don't want my boys looking at immodest girls. The YW I used to have the pleasure of working with were SO great at being modest. They would find modest prom dress, or make the modest by putting cute jackets over or having sleeves made. In their everyday wear they would also make adjustments to their clothing to make them modest. I had a thought of when they started dressing modestly (no, I haven't asked their parents, but maybe I shall). So, Shane and I thoughts on the matter is to start early, not early as in when they enter elementary school, but early as in infancy. Now, maybe you are thinking that a little infant girl or toddler wearing tank dress isn't that big of a deal, but to us it is. Start early so hopefully it can be a teaching moment throughout their lives and when they are teenager they have already made the choice to dress modesty. I recently ran into an old friend from college, Tina Harding at the pool where 3 of her 5 children are taking swim lessons and Corin is too, just at different times. Her 4th child is a little girl who is super cute and funny. She loves to boss Corin around in a cute way and Corin doesn't mind a bit since I don't think he really listens to her, just plays with her before his starts and her siblings gets over. One day she had on a cute little tank dress that crisscrossed in the back and Tina put on a little white tee under it. She still looked super cute and modest!! Even a 2 1/2 year old can be modest. Shane was there that day and even commented on how cute she looked with the tee underneath her dress.  So, these are just my own personal thoughts on the subject. Boys are SO much easier I have found out. It is so easy to find tees and long shorts for them, but adjustments and layering can be made to girls clothing. So when I have a girl, which when we decide for #3 I hope it is whether she be 2wks, 2months, 2years or 12yrs I will always dress her modestly.

FINALLY a Sippy Cup!!

Declan will FINALLY drink properly out of a sippy cup! It has taken awhile. I think he has always known how it works, but has instead chewed on it to get the liquid out instead of sucking. He does like to chew on things. He still has 8 teeth and hasn't gotten anymore  in quite awhile.

And his favorite place to sit is on the couch

He also enjoys this chair. We got it for Corin when he was younger, but now it has to be shared.
Actually, I think he enjoys climbing in it more. Nothing is safe on the end table anymore.

Protective Mama Bear

So, I haven't blogged in awhile. Our computer got a virus, so we had to restore everything! Consequently, I can't find the CD to my camera and I thought it was working to just pull them straight off the camera, as I did with the Mother's Day pictures S-T-O-P and White Food (yep it was that long ago that the computer crashed and had to be restored). When I was going these it was having problems getting them off, but I found ways around it, but it was a pain. I haven't thoroughly looked for the CD, but hopefully soon I will since my memory stick is SO full that it is causing my camera to run slow.

So, a few weeks ago Corin was outside in our backyard playing. There is another backyard diagonal from our backyard that has some kids that I believe are 5, 8 and always other kids are playing there. Quite awhile ago they asked Corin what his name is and we told them (Corin said his name, but they didn't understand him and he was saying quietly) So, Corin was in the backyard playing by himself and all of the sudden the kids that live there and the other kids that were over to play started making fun of his name calling him "corn" and saying this like "Can I eat you since you are corn, I like corn" They were laughing and since Corin thought he heard his name thought they were talking to him so he got on the porch step to see them and started laughing as well. When I heard it from the kitchen window I immediately got defensive! So I went outside and talked to Corin tell him that they weren't being very nice and not to talk to him and than I just stayed outside (Declan was asleep) and stayed out there with him which immediately shut the kids up. He did tell them that his name was Cor-in, but I'm not sure they heard over their laughing. They did say "His mom is outside" and I went to dig in my flower bed and they said "Where did she go?" But they didn't make fun of his name anymore. No, I didn't say anything to the kids. I was about ready to yell at them, but thought that I would just talk to Corin about not talking to them. And I think I was just taken back by them making fun of him, since I haven't yet experienced him being made fun of. I just couldn't believe how mean kids could be! Ever since I have been hypersenstive in listening out the windows or back door when Corin is out by himself to see if I need to intervene. It made me SO grateful for the Church and the gospel where the parents teach their kids correct principals and how to treat others. NO kids from church have ever made fun of Corin's name!!

Swim Class

Corin started his first session of Swim Lessons aka Swim Class according to Corin. It is at the rec. center that is about a 2mile walk from our house. We may not walk everyday, but I'm hoping to get 2-3days a week walking to swim class in. It is everyday from 10-10:25am for 2weeks.
He LOVES the water. He has never been afraid of it or timid about putting his face or head into it. Now, he just needs to remember that he is learning to swim and cannot go off on his own and do it by himself quite yet. They go over to a deeper end and do some jumping in, which of course he LOVES, but when he was done and climbed back up to sit on the side, he slid right on it again. Of course he went under, but another lifeguard caught him. He wasn't all that startled about it, his teacher was though. I heard her talking to the other lifeguard after class saying that he gave her a heart attack. Yep, that's my child alright!

GRADUATION!!

HOORAY, SHANE HAS OFFICIALLY GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE! It has been a long time coming because he had to work 2 jobs and go to school to provide for our family. I am SO grateful for his hardwork and sacrificing sleep to work hard at both his jobs and at school. Now, onto putting in resumes for fulltime jobs so we can officially feel like grown ups.

Shane decided that he didn't want to attend the graduation ceremony that was being held. He didn't want to spend the money on renting the cap and gown and also thought about me having to struggle keeping 2 little, active boys quiet during the ceremony. So, instead we celebrated as a family on the DU campus on the day of Graduation. We had such a wonderful day together as a family.

We had a picnic right in the middle of campus! We forgot out picnic blanket and the grass was a bit damp so we went to the bookstore and purchased a blanket! We HAVE to have something DU amongst all the CU appeal I have!
Declan is in love with fruit and was pounding down the raspberries and blueberries.

Declan was sharing his raspberries with Corin.

Declan loves chewing on celery and he loves spoons even more!

Declan usually doesn't like to walk around in grass because of the uneven surface, but today he was EVERYWHERE! He carried around the spoon and celery the whole time, well until the celery just because a stringy mess, but still had to get it from him and put in into the trash descreetly. The spoon he finally dropped and I was able to trash that descreetly as well.

After lunch we played baseball! Corin wanted to be the pitcher the whole time. He had so much fun throwing the ball so we could hit it and going to chase it. We didn't have bases so we just pretended to run the bases and he loved chasing after us with the ball to tag us to be out.

After a fun game of baseball. We walked around campus. Corin got a bit confused about all the buildings being Daddy's school. Shane however had most of his classes in Sturm Hall, so we decided that was Daddy's school.

The building was open, so we went inside and Corin enjoyed walking around and sitting in some of the different classrooms Shane had classes in.

These two may have to be seperated
Corin wanted to be the teacher

We walked to the Richie Center where Magness Arena

They have these stone lips outside the Richie Center which, when they are one "speak", unfortunately they weren't on so we couldn't hear them. Corin thought it was funny that there were just lips outside.
Declan had a great time running around inside while Corin went to the bathroom with Shane.

Then, it was dessert time!! We went to Ben and Jerry's that is just across the street from campus.

Corin got Phish Food! He LOVES chocolate just like his parents and thought it was fun to have chocolate fish in it as well.

Shane shared his with Declan. I tried, but Declan didn't like it at all. It was called Chocolate Therapy. I think it was too rich for him. Declan would get angry that Shane wasn't giving it to him fast enough or taking a bit himself

It was a wonderful day!
