Daddy's Birthday Treats

Today is Shane's birthday, exactly a week after Corin's! When Corin was born I told Shane happy early birthday present and that this was all I was going to be able to get him. I love it! I just think it is totally cute!
Today I text Shane to tell him Happy Birthday, ask what he wanted for dinner and than later on what he would like for dessert; we had stuff to make brownies or Rice Krispies treats). He said he didn't care what we had for dinner, whatever I wanted to make and wanted Rice Krispie treats. I text him later telling him about the boys; Corin wasn't napping, Declan finally feel asleep, but woke up as I was tring to put him down and then was completely awake and I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open. Because of this and using the big pot last night for dinner it wasn't clean and was not going to be able to get it cleaned and treats made before getting ready for dinner. Shane text me back with this "I will make them, I do not mind besides, half the fun of rice crispies is making them and getting all messy." I said "You like getting messy? They are sticky!" (Shane hates his hands being sticky) He replied "I make an exception for sticky sweet and edible. The company is the best part. How could I not enjoy making treats with my lovely wife and our children?" Stirring the marshmellows to get them all melted
Declan was crawling under our feet feeling neglected. Mom, I want to help? Why can't I help?
Please Mom pick me up so I can help?FINE, I'll do it myself! Corin snacking on the rice krispies while we put the treats in the pan
YUM YUM! I like them sticky, but tonight they were super sticky! (we didn't let them cooll completely either before eating)! The 1 cup solid measuring cup was dirty from making breakfast bars today, so we improvised and used the 1 cup liquid, which made for much more marshmellows and also I wasn't being percise on measuring either. They were yummy! We gave Declan some and....He LOVED them!!When asked if he wanted more, he would sign more, which he has just recently taken to and if we didn't give him anything or weren't quick enough he would get mad It was a fun evening!

Just Going to the Dentist

Today was Corin's FIRST dental appointment! I waited til he was 4 on purpose, because I knew that at 3 and even 3 1/2 he just wouldn't have been able to handle it. He did great! He tried his best to keep his mouth open wide. He was wiggly and was quickly ready to leave, which for him is normal, but at 3 it would have been even worse I truly believe. NO cavities! I actually wasn't surprised by this because he really isn't much into eating a ton of candy (not that that is always a cause, just something I thought of because the hygenist was talking about "sugar bugs" to Corin while she was looking at his teeth) and also Shane and I do do the majority of brushing his teeth so that they get as clean as possible (which the dentist was glad to hear we did), he gets to brush at the end when we are finished. He was very excited about getting a new toothbrush, toothpaste and some flossers. He has been excited to use the flossers, so its a good habit to start because I am terrible. He got to wear cool sunglasses to keep the bright light out of his eyes.

What privacy??This is Declan new thing when someone is in the bathroom, but especially when Corin is in there since he encourages it

I Think He's An O'Berry

Again, in an effort to get Declan to try new foods Shane today gave him some black olives for lunch as he was making himself a bagel pizza from the leftovers we had from Corin's party yesterday. I told him sure and it seems that Declan does like them...or is it that he is more willing to try new foods? I personally don't like them and my side of the family doesn't like them, but Shane's side does, hence the title for this post. At holiday meals the O'Berrys will always have a can of black olives so now Shane says that he'll add a can of black olives to the shopping lists for him and Declan.
Look Daddy I'm eating it
He's looking at daddy! Shane's happy that he likes olives!

My goodness I've posted a lot today, have you been able to keep up??

Sister Taufa

I have mentioned Sister Taufa, the Temple Square sister who was here, in some previous posts so I finally got the pictures of Corin and Sister Taufa from my mom and wanted to post them for posterity sake. This was at a dinner at my parents house close to when she left.

Trying New Foods

Yes, we have still be working on getting Declan to eat more than just green beans, American cheese and bread. On Thursday my dear friend Allison came over for lunch. Earlier I had put him in his high chair with an array of foods: green beans of course, mandarin oranges, roasted red peppers (from a jar) and tomato. Of course he ate the green beans first and I just left him in his high chair for quite sometime because he was happy. After a little while I looked over and most of the other food items were gone! YAY, I was thrilled!!

So since then I have given him mandarin oranges (this picture was from breakfast this morning)

And roasted red peppers from a jar (this was Thursday dinner time)
I think he is coming to grips with different foods. My thought is FINALLY! Oh well, different child, different personality.
Also I think we have finally conquered our aversion to chunky food. One Monday I made lasagna for dinner (the reason I had the jar of roasted red peppers). I made the sauce and when I was finished assembling I gave Declan a bite. HE LOVED IT!! I was partly surprised and partly not. Surprised because it had meat in it, so it was chunky and not because he LOVES the Gerber baby food jar of spaghetti with meat sauce. So I cooked up some Orzo pasta, which I had food storage til it was really soft, added it to the meat sauce and also added some canned petite tomatoes. He ate it all and didn't spit it out. I know the picture looks like he doesn't like it, but he really does. I feel like I'm shoveling it in as fast as he eats it and than opens his mouth for more

Party Time!

HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY CORIN!
We had his party today, on his birthday!
Declan was fascinated with the balloons
Waiting for friends to arrive We did make your own bagel pizzas for lunch and had some fruit and veggies to go with it. It was simple, cheap and the kids had fun with it. It wasn't that messy either. I did put the sauce. We had cupcakes! I was making them and frosting them on Thursday when the Sister Missionaries stopped by. Sister Pakalani wanted to write on them. She got the pattern I was making a little messed up, but that's okay. It's fun to say that Sister Pakalani helped with Corin's birthday cupcakes since he is in love with her
As I was told I was crazy to make SO many cupcakes. I wanted to try to please everyone, so I make chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and chocolate and vanilla frosting then make double white, double chocolate and opposite cupcakes. After lunch, presents and cupcakes at our houwe we went to The Hop in Thornton, which is an indoor place with jumping castles. They have open jump time during the week from 1-4pm for $6. This is the reason we had his party on a Friday, so we could go here and pay a cheaper price than the party priceEven the dads had a good time!He got a helicopter with a man from Hannah! He LOVES it!!Justin gave him a train set! Can never go wrong with trains for Corin and can never have too many trains and track pieces!
A Robot costume from his friend Daniel! Daniel has a few of these type costume and his house and Corin likes them so it was great that Daniel gave him one for his birthday. His friend Kate got him some special Toy Story Candies that came in a tin. He loves Toy Story, so it was perfect to have his own special Toy Story candies. We have so many cupcakes left that we had those for a treat after dinner, so we are going to save them for later as Corin puts it.
We gave him a bucket of blocks. He really hasn't been into blocks until recently.I think Shane had more fun building with the blocks we got Corin
