Protective Mama Bear

So, I haven't blogged in awhile. Our computer got a virus, so we had to restore everything! Consequently, I can't find the CD to my camera and I thought it was working to just pull them straight off the camera, as I did with the Mother's Day pictures S-T-O-P and White Food (yep it was that long ago that the computer crashed and had to be restored). When I was going these it was having problems getting them off, but I found ways around it, but it was a pain. I haven't thoroughly looked for the CD, but hopefully soon I will since my memory stick is SO full that it is causing my camera to run slow.

So, a few weeks ago Corin was outside in our backyard playing. There is another backyard diagonal from our backyard that has some kids that I believe are 5, 8 and always other kids are playing there. Quite awhile ago they asked Corin what his name is and we told them (Corin said his name, but they didn't understand him and he was saying quietly) So, Corin was in the backyard playing by himself and all of the sudden the kids that live there and the other kids that were over to play started making fun of his name calling him "corn" and saying this like "Can I eat you since you are corn, I like corn" They were laughing and since Corin thought he heard his name thought they were talking to him so he got on the porch step to see them and started laughing as well. When I heard it from the kitchen window I immediately got defensive! So I went outside and talked to Corin tell him that they weren't being very nice and not to talk to him and than I just stayed outside (Declan was asleep) and stayed out there with him which immediately shut the kids up. He did tell them that his name was Cor-in, but I'm not sure they heard over their laughing. They did say "His mom is outside" and I went to dig in my flower bed and they said "Where did she go?" But they didn't make fun of his name anymore. No, I didn't say anything to the kids. I was about ready to yell at them, but thought that I would just talk to Corin about not talking to them. And I think I was just taken back by them making fun of him, since I haven't yet experienced him being made fun of. I just couldn't believe how mean kids could be! Ever since I have been hypersenstive in listening out the windows or back door when Corin is out by himself to see if I need to intervene. It made me SO grateful for the Church and the gospel where the parents teach their kids correct principals and how to treat others. NO kids from church have ever made fun of Corin's name!!

  1. And good for you for helping him stand up for himself instead of doing it for him! In my opinion, you've taught him a very important life tool, that he's worth standing up for. Go you! I get so defensive, too, and it's so hard not to go pound some bratty faces in (lol!) and teach my own kids instead that what they're doing isn't nice and what to do in cases like that. So hard!

  2. Thanks Jami! It was SO hard not to say anything and also not to cry. He's 4 and already getting made fun of!
