Gardening: Do We Have A Green Thumb?

When we bought our house almost 3yrs ago the lawns were in terrible shape. Over the years we have been working to ressurect them into something decent. The grass this year is looking great; green and lush, even if there are still some annoying weeds creeping through it. As with many things it is still a process and also we have to take it one small step at a time because we don't have the means to do it all at once. Well, in our backyard, there is this area along the back fence that was absolutely terrible with crazy amounts of weeds and TALL crab grass. There is actually a metal piece in the lawn that divides it from the rest of the lawn, so we figured at one point it may have been a garden area...a huge garden area! So, why change it, was our thought?

This year we decided to try out our green thumb and make a small garden. This area is going to take tons of work because it is seriously all clay (Yes, I know, I live in Colorado, of course there is going to be clay) so we (actually Shane) dug a hole and put nice, rich soil in it for our garden.

So, with the small amount of funds we had we made our own garden area and planted tomatoes, green beans, cucumber and red peppers plants and zucchini and onion seeds.
We got some fencing and just made a temporary fence around it so Pippin and Corin wouldn't get into it. One day it will be perfect, but for now we do with what we got and can afford.
